Conventional medicine considers that ADHD is caused by deficient and imbalanced neurotransmitters in the brain. They put so much emphasis on chemistry-neuronal communication that they forget that neurotransmitters are only released when a nerve electrical impulse gets to the end of the neuron. Nerve impulse travel along nerves, but they can do so optimally only if certain conditions are met. Most of those conditions are related to the membranes of neurons. As long as membranes are flexible and fluid, neurons can communicate optimally. Neuron membranes, therefore, need special types of fat such as omega-3 fatty acids. However, they also need another type of fat, called phospholipids.

Phospholipids are fats that contain phosphorous. The two most important phospholipids are

phosphatidylserine (PS) and phosphatidylcholine (PC).

Phosphatidylserine(PS)

Phosphatidylserine is found in all cell membranes, but our brain cell membranes have an extremely high amount of it. Taking supplement of PS has been shown to improve memory and cognitive function, boosting mood, reducing stress, improving attention, and reducing aggression in children with ADHD.

Phosphatidylserine comes from organ meat such as liver, kidneys, and brain. However, eating large amounts of these products is not a good idea, since these are the same organs that tend to accumulate toxins.

As a supplement, you can take 200 mg of PS twice a day with meals for two months. After two months, reduce to 100 mg twice a day with meals.

Phospathidylcholine (PC)

Phospathidylcholine is another abundant molecule in the cell membrane. PC helps make new brain cells, and helps maintain concentration, attention, memory, and mood. It also boosts detoxification and reduces cortisol, the stress hormone that is toxic to the brain. PC contains choline, and is the precursor to acetylcholine, a brain neurotransmitter involved in learning and memory. The best sources of choline are lecithin (from egg yolk and soybeans), eggs, sardines, soybeans, and peanuts.

As a supplement, you can take 1200 mg of PC three times a day with meals for two months. After two months, reduce to 400 mg three times a day with meals.
